Nokia launching very high featured phones this year

Nokia to make a comeback with 3 new Android smartphones; here’s everything we know so far
Making a grand (hopefully) comeback this year, Nokia is speculated to launch three new Android smartphones. As per reports, two of them would be high-end, and one would be a mid-range.
The iconic smartphone brand Nokia is gearing up to revive its dead kingdom in the smartphone market. Reportedly, the Finnish smartphone manufacturer is re-entering the market with three new Android-based smartphones by the end of this year, which will include two high-end smartphones and a mid-range one. Nokia has not revealed any specifications or details about the new smartphones, but the ongoing speculations have revealed quite a bit about them. Two weeks ago, we came across a mysterious (and awkwardly monikered) Nokia D1C, which was spotted on Geekbench. The listing revealed some details about the upcoming smartphone. Post that, last week as well, someone managed to run the smartphone on AnTuTu benchmarking app, revealing rest of its specifications and features.

The Nokia smartphone in question carries a model number D1C and was put through paces on Geekbench five times on September 30.

Spotted by PhoneArena, the smartphone had logged a peak score of 667 in single-core test and 3,229 in multi-core tests. The benchmark listing also revealed that the smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor (MSM8937) clocked at 1.4GHz paired with Adreno 505 GPU and 3GB of RAM. On the software front, it is said to be running on Android 7.0 Nougat. Sadly, the listing did not reveal any information about the display size and resolution, and the camera setup. This, however was the first time that any tangible evidence of the upcoming Nokia smartphones surfaced.

Soon later, PlayfulDroid spotted an AnTuTu listing that revealed Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor (MSM8937) clocked at 1.4GHz paired with Adreno 505 GPU and 3GB of RAM. While the screen size is still unknown, the benchmark listing revealed that the display would sport a full HD resolution (1080x1920pixels). With 32GB onboard storage, the smartphone could also feature a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel selfie snapper. Running on Android 7.0 Nougat, connectivity options such as Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi and 4G LTE are expected to be in tow.

More recently, rumors also pointed at two Nokia smartphones sporting high-resolution QHD panels – one with 5.2-inch and other with 5.5-inch screen. They were also rumored to pack 22.6-megapixel rear cameras with LED flash and support for 4K video recording. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC under the hood, prices for the smartphones are expected to start at Rs 30,000. Also, considering the rumor about the new smartphones coming in two screen size, Nokia, like many other leading smartphone manufacturers, could be adopted a larger screen variant.

Last year, multiple leaks and press renders revealed quite a bit of details about Nokia C1 smartphone. The leaked rendered images of the smartphone showed unibody construction with curved edges, but it’s does not clearly show if we are looking at a metal or plastic body. From the images, we could see the front and back cameras, a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top and a USB connectivity port at the bottom. Also, the bezels looked super thin.

Also, based on other previous leaks, the Nokia C1 could be mid-range smartphone. It could flaunt a 5-inch HD (1280x720pixels) display, powered by Intel’s Atom chip and paired with 2GB of RAM. Also, the smartphone could house 32GB of onboard storage. On the photograph front, it could sport an 8-megapixel rear snapper with LED flash and a front-facing 5-megapixel selfie camera. Connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS are also expected. As per reports, the Nokia C1 could be launched with a price tag below Rs 20,000.

Back in August this year, news of the upcoming Android-powered smartphones was confirmed in a press release from the company. But Nokia won’t be manufacturing these devices, and has instead tasked HMD for that. To complete its portfolio of Nokia branding rights, HMD announced today that it has conditionally agreed to acquire from Microsoft the rights to use the Nokia brand on feature phones, and certain design rights. The Microsoft transaction is expected to close in H2, 2016. Together these agreements would make HMD the sole global licensee for all types of Nokia-branded mobile phones and tablets. HMD intends to invest over $500 million over the next three years to support the global marketing of Nokia-branded mobile phones and tablets, funded via its investors and profits from the acquired feature phone business,” the press release read.
